Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of RentalGenie — the app that helps you document the condition of a rental car with time-stamped photos at pickup and return. Plain language, no traps.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the app at least 14 days before they take effect.
2. What RentalGenie does — and doesn't
RentalGenie lets you capture, organize and compare photo evidence of a rental vehicle's condition. It pairs a pickup scan with a return scan and highlights what changed.
What it is not: a legal certification, an independent damage assessment, or legal advice. A RentalGenie report organizes your evidence and explains the rental company's receipt. It does not determine who caused damage or what you owe.
3. Your account
RentalGenie Cloud — where scans are preserved, synced across devices and turned into reports — requires signing in. Sign-in currently works with a Google account (OAuth); we never see or store your Google password. Additional sign-in providers (e.g. Apple) may be added over time. You are responsible for keeping access to your account and the device your scans live on.
4. Your content
Scans, photos and reports you create are your content. We claim no ownership of it.
- You grant us a limited license to store, back up, sync and process your content solely to provide the service: preservation in the cloud (365 days), multi-device sync, and report generation.
- Photos saved "on this device" stay on your device until you explicitly back them up. We have no access to them until you do.
- You confirm you had the right to photograph the vehicle and its surroundings at the time of capture.
- Don't upload content that is unlawful, infringes others' rights, or contains personal data of third parties you have no right to process.
5. Acceptable use
- Use the service only to document your own rentals or rentals you're authorized to document.
- Don't tamper with, stage or misrepresent photographic evidence.
- Don't attempt to access other users' scans, reverse-engineer the service, or abuse it in ways that degrade it for everyone else.
6. Reports and disputes
You may export reports as PDF or share them using your device's sharing tools. Reports are generated from your photos and the details you enter — check them before sending. If you dispute a damage charge, RentalGenie gives you evidence to argue with; it does not speak on your behalf.
7. Availability and changes
We aim for high availability but provide the service "as is", without warranties of uninterrupted operation. Cloud-stored scans are kept for 365 days from the date of upload, after which they are automatically deleted. We may change or discontinue features; if we ever shut the service down, we'll give you reasonable notice and a window to export your data.
8. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our liability for damages arising from the use of the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or CHF 100 if you paid nothing). We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for outcomes of rental disputes, damage charges, insurance decisions or legal proceedings.
9. Termination
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time; deleting your account removes your cloud data. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or the law. Where possible, we'll warn you first and let you export what's yours.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by Swiss law. Exclusive place of jurisdiction is Zurich, Switzerland, unless mandatory consumer-protection law grants you a different forum.
